January 2010

I've just returned from Washington, DC where DOT COMET just had a very good workshop reading at Wooly Mammoth. It was very good for Mike Ogborn and I to see and hear the show on it's feet, and get a sense of the whole piece. It was a good step forward, and gave me a good sense of where to concentrate on the next round of re-writes.

Writing, after all . . . is re-writing!

January 27: I added some pictures from the reading to my PHOTO GALLERY page.

December 2009

Happy Holidays to all!

I just finished a revision of my play THE DUNES following a staged reading of the play at the Barrow Group in October. I'm very happy with the shape it's in, and I'm looking forward to a reading of my new musical DOT COMET, written with Barrymore Award winner Michael Ogborn. We're having a reading for the producer this month, and looking toward a public presentation in the early new year, if all goes well.

November 2009

A very busy month. I have eight different productions of my plays being performed this month around the country. On top of that I know people have been picking up copies of my new collection CHOOSING SIDES and theAtrainplays, Vol. II, featuring my short play THE BEST WAY TO GO.

October 2009

CHOOSING SIDES, my new collection of short plays and monologues, is now published and available from Dramatists Play Service.

The collection includes twelve works such as FREE, TRAIN OF THOUGHT, PERCHANCE and GUNS DON'T KILL, which have produced from Portland, Maine to New York, and from Miami to Los Angeles. The collection is compiled almost entirely of works commissioned by such theatre companies as theAtrainplays, the 24 Hour Plays, Gorilla Rep, the Metropolitan Playhouse and the Winter Harbor Theatre Company.

September 2009

FREE and Rogue Machine Theatre's late night show "Shorts and Sweets" completely sold out its August run and has been extended into September. The show starts its extended run on Friday, September 11 at 10:30pm, running Fridays and Saturdays until September 26.

In other news, theAtrainplays, Vol. 2, featuring my short play THE BEST WAY TO GO has been published and is now available from Playscripts, Inc.

August 13, 2009

One of my favorites of my own Atrainplays, FREE, is being performed as part of Rogue Machine Theatre's Shorts and Sweets, Fridays and Saturdays, August 7 -22, starting at 10:30. I'm really happy to be part of the show, and my friend Robin Rothstein also has a play in the evening!

"Shorts and Sweets" got a great review in Eye Spy LA, which said "Free by Craig Pospisil is about all the stuff that weighs us down. It’s a cute three-hander with terrific actors" and a "naughty slice of devil’s food cake."

The trip to the Last Frontier Theatre Conference was fantastic. I met some terrific people, saw some great work and it looks like I'll be going back next year. (More details and announcements to come soon!)

The Featured Artists reading night at the Last Frontier Theater Conference

April 2009

There's a few things on the horizon. First up is a reading of my play THE AMERICAN DREAM REVISITED on Thursday, April 16 at the Arthur Seelen Theater at the Drama Book Shop. Manhattan Oracles, a writers group that I am a member of, is having an evening of short plays at 7:00 PM that night, and mine will be one of four plays being read that night.

A little further ahead is something I'm really looking forward to. I'm going to be a featured artist at the Last Frontier Theatre Conference in Valdez, Alaska. The conference runs from June 13 - 20, and I'll be there with Arlene Hutton, Kia Corthron, John DiFusco and Marshall Mason among others. Arlene Hutton and I are writing a new play together, and we'll be teaching a class together at the conference.

And in amidst all that, I'm still moving forward on the new musical with composer Michael Ogborn, which is going well, and writing a new piece for the Winter Harbor Theatre Company's next show. (I may need a vacation.)

March 2009

I recently took part in a roundtable interview/discussion called "Balancing Acts: Surviving and Thriving in the Theater," with Robin Rothstein, David Hilder and Melanie Armer. The interview was recorded for a podcast by Martin Denton's NYTheatre.com, and can be found here: Balancing Acts.
